Common questions

The clock isn't on the right screen

Open PodLapse on your Mac and go to the Remote tab. Under Display, pick the screen your talent can see — the confidence monitor. If only one display is listed, connect a second screen; the clock is meant to be read by someone other than the person driving the Mac.

A fullscreen app is covering the clock

Go to the Output tab, find Floating on top, and change How far in front from Standard to Maximum. Standard works over fullscreen Keynote and browser video; Maximum sits above everything, including system alerts.

If that doesn't do it, open Troubleshooting in the same section and make sure Stay visible over fullscreen apps is on.

The remote can't find my Mac

Three things, in order:

  • Both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and phone hotspots usually block devices from seeing each other.
  • PodLapse has to be open on the Mac — check the Remote tab says “Ready for remotes to connect”.
  • The remote needs local network permission. On iPhone or iPad: Settings → PodLapse Remote → Local Network.

Venue and conference Wi-Fi often isolates clients from each other, which blocks discovery entirely. If you're somewhere like that, a dedicated router or a personal hotspot that both devices join is the reliable answer.

Where do I find the pairing code?

On the Mac, in PodLapse, on the Remote tab. Type those six digits into the remote. Tap New to generate a fresh one if you'd rather not reuse it.

A keyboard shortcut isn't working

Open the Keys tab. If a shortcut is dimmed and marked as in use, another app on your Mac registered that combination first and PodLapse can't receive it. Quitting the other app, or changing its shortcut, frees it up.

The shortcuts work while you're in any app — you don't need to click back into PodLapse first. That's the point of them.

Can I use a Stream Deck?

Yes, with no plugin. Add a Hotkey action to a key and record the combination shown on the Keys tab. Start/Pause, Reset, Blackout and Flash all work this way.

Can my talent read the clock if they're colour blind?

Yes, and it's worth setting up deliberately. On the Look tab, the Readability for your talent section checks your chosen colours and warns you if two phases would look identical to someone with a colour vision deficiency — around 1 in 12 men. There's a one-tap colour-blind-safe palette, and the time-remaining bar gives a second signal that doesn't depend on colour at all.

Does it work with my video switcher?

Feed the display PodLapse is on into an HDMI input, then key it. On the Output tab pick a background: black for a luma key, or green, blue or magenta for a chroma key. Use a light clock colour on black and a dark one on white.

PodLapse doesn't send video itself — it puts a clean, keyable image on a screen and lets your switcher do the compositing.

Can I run longer than an hour?

Yes, up to ten hours. The +1h button on the Clock tab and on the remote steps in whole hours, and the display keeps a steady width for the whole run so it doesn't change size mid-show.
